Direct Contactor Heat Exchanger or Condensors are known for considerable time. Primarily they are used for condensing steam as feed water heaters or Solvent Recovery Plants or Steam Distillation Plants for Essential Oils. Most common form of this is where drop of Cold Liquid falls through saturated vapours. These are called Barometer or Low Level Condenser, commonly used in Steam Power plants. Another method is where vapors are bubbled in a pool of liquid.
A direct extension of these common sense method is thin film on a structured surface, where the vapour
condensation effectively takes place. These structured surface may be provided by any of the packings such as Rasching, Lessing, Pall Rings, Bevl or Intraloc Saddles. However, the effectiveness is also controlled by a proper vapor flow so that the heat transfer coefficient are high as well as vapour transport to the film is controlled. Mamko offers special design Static Elements for this purpose. The Direct Contactor Heat Exchanger is thus made in compact format. A working arrangement is shown below.
